Graduating from the University of Waterloo with a degree in electrical engineering, Chamath Palihapitiya started his career as a derivatives trader. Through his professional growth, he worked at Spinner.com and Winamp, and then moved to AOL where he was the Vice President and General Manager of AIM and ICQ, completely responsible for overlooking both brands. After working with AOL for five years, Chamath focused on the consumer-based internet market as a part of Mayfield, a VC firm. This diverse experience in the consumer internet market brought Chamath to the now popular Facebook as a VP of Product Marketing.
